Senior Applications Engineer – Laser Cutting, Shanghai
Role Summary
A senior applications engineer will serve as one of nLIGHT’s customer-facing technical experts specializing in laser material processing. To be recognized as a technical expert in laser cutting, a senior applications engineer must have extensive experience in high-power laser cutting of metals and demonstrated knowledge of cutting machine architecture at a system level. This role will represent nLIGHT’s brand at trade shows and in daily interactions with customers and partners and therefore must demonstrate confident technical presentation skills. In addition to the outward-facing activities, this role will be responsible for designing, managing, and executing cutting parameter development projects in nLIGHT’s applications labs.
The senior application engineer will also act as technical sales support role to enable nLIGHT’s fiber laser sales in terms of both application spec win and exiting customer application support and problem solving. Both at laser and system level.

Responsibilities
?Serve as a subject matter expert in laser cutting of metals.
?Support sales and marketing teams with technical content and application expertise for targeted metal cutting customers in Asia.
?Develop, manage, execute, and document laser cutting experiments for customer applications.
?Operate, program, and maintain in-house cutting systems and support equipment.
?Provide remote and onsite process troubleshooting for strategic accounts or challenging applications.
?Diagnose optical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical components of automated laser systems to assess their effects on the performance of a laser cutting process.
?Summarize laser cutting project results into presentations for case studies and sales examples.
?Generate photos, videos, and market-tailored content for a variety of product marketing venues.
?Promote the nLIGHT brand in networking environments at technical conferences and trade shows.
?Provide market feedback to product managers for competitive benchmarking and documenting application trends regionally and globally (NA, EU, China, ROW).
?Up to 50% travel required, including international.
?Present at technical conferences and trade shows
?Support regional and global sales teams with joint visits to key accounts
?Provide onsite process troubleshooting or applications training for strategic customers

Qualifications
?2+ years of experience working for a laser cutting system OEM
?2+ years of experience developing high-power laser cutting parameters (＞3kW cw)
?Recognized as a subject matter expert in laser cutting of metals.
?Deep technical knowledge of industrial fiber lasers, cutting optic designs, gas delivery systems, machine control platforms, and integrated cutting system architecture.
?Demonstrated problem solving abilities in high-stress, down-production situations.
?Experience demonstrating product value in customer interactions.
?Advanced programming skills with G-code, PLCs, and machine control languages.
?Proven project management experience successfully executing multiple concurrent programs within demanding schedules and budgets.
